Operation Walk 2008
In March 2008, Derek McMinn assembled his surgical team and travelled to Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, to participate in Operation Walk. Operation Walk is a non-profit organisation that provides hip and knee replacement for patients suffering from arthritis or traumatic injuries in developing countries. The team is made up of volunteer surgeons, anaesthesiologists, nurses, technicians and physical therapists.
Over the course of 5 days, 19 hips were performed on patients who would otherwise not have access to treatment.
The trip was made possible by the generosity of companies and private donors who supplied all the surgical instruments and tools required to make the project a success.
In the videos below, Mr McMinn's surgical team describe their experiences during their time in Vietnam.
The documentary is available in 2 parts.
