Both BHRs succeeded beyond my expectations!

Seventy-eight year old Reg Hall has travelled from the USA twice to undergo Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR) surgery with Mr McMinn.

I’m a bit older than most of Mr McMinn’s patients. My left hip was resurfaced in 1999 when I was 63 and the right hip in 2010 at the ripe old age of 74.

I live in the US so the first hip preceded US approval of the procedure which drew me to Birmingham. My hospital in Atlanta – a teaching hospital – would not resurface my second hip because of my age so I travelled back to Birmingham again. Both operations followed a gradual deterioration in my freedom of movement along with increasing pain.

The Birmingham Hip Resurfacing (BHR)

Both succeeded beyond my expectations.

My wife and I walk an average of 25 miles a week in hilly terrain with no problem at all. I walked with neither a limp nor pain immediately following the procedure. I checked myself out of the hospital three days before the week was up. I felt as though I was malingering by staying longer!

The operations cost a third of the going rate at the Atlanta hospital which included all of two days in bed after the operation – a very good deal indeed.

My knees are holding up well but if they too deteriorate I will be coming back to Birmingham again.

I consider Derek McMinn a genius at what he does.
