David Walker - Judo
Champion |
| "I've
been told my Judo today is better no w
than when I was in the Olympic Team". David underwent a right
hip resurfacing operation in early 1995 for severe osteoarthritis
of the right hip. Mobility of the hip had been greatly reduced. |

"I have
my life back again thanks to
the resurfacing. The success is staggering".

"I was in severe pain
24 hours a day, walking was becoming impossible and I was afraid
I would end up in a wheelchair. Judo was a big part of my life
and my job is also very physical. As the pain got greater my
mobility was reduced, I was afraid of losing
not
only my sport but my landscaping business. I was under the impression
that I was too young to have an artificial hip and it took eight
years of ever increasing pain before I found out about the resurfacing
technique. The resurfacing was a total success, I have had absolutely
no pain since the operation and was up and walking the very
next day. Twelve weeks later I was back training and was able
to do the splits and squat thrusts. I have my life back again
thanks to the resurfacing, the success is staggering". David
Walker recently beat 120 contestants to take the British &
European Masters over 40's Judo title |

George Dobson - Fell
Runner |
| Falling
off a ladder and sustaining an acetabular fracture was the underlying
cause of osteoarthritis in George Dobson's right hip, treated
by a resurfacing prosthesis. "At its worst, my leg seized up
completely, at its best, I could just about walk with the aid
of a stick. Being active all my life, I was afraid an artificial
hip would mean taking it slow and easy. The resurfacing operation
transformed my life from one of pain and misery to that of hope
for the future. I was back on my feet the next day and the relief
from pain was unbelievable. In just six months, I was back on
the Fells running seven miles twice a week". |

David Eddy - Badminton
Coach |
In
1994 my arthritic hip had degenerated to the level where I was
unable to play badminton and it was seriously affecting my ability
to coach. Friends recommended a traditional hip replacement
but I was put off by the limited life span of these operations,
the risk of failure and the fact that people that I Knew who
had had the operation did not appear particularly active or
mobile - though of course they were OK.
I made some enquiries and the resurfacing technique made a lot
of sense. Basically I had nothing to lose, if the artificial
hip failed I could fall back on a traditional hip replacement
as a last resort. The resurfacing was a fabulous success which
totally transformed my quality of life. I no longer think about
my artificial hip, the operation and recovery was completely
pain and trouble free. I would without hesitation recommend
the operation to anyone.
